The apartments are located where the red dot is on the map, between the Zattere Canal and Campo S.Margherita. |

|
We-Nice-Venice is located in the beautiful and peaceful "Sestiere" Dorsoduro. Saint Mark's Square is just 15 minutes away. With a 3 minutes walk you can get to the lively "Campo" Santa Margherita with nice pubs, cafčs and live music. In the opposite direction it will take you about 2 minutes to reach "Le Zattere", the waterfront, with view on the Giudecca Canal. The Accademia Bridge, over the Grand Canal, is just 4 minutes away. When you are about to reach Venice, just give us a ring to arrange a meeting point: the owner himself will pick you up and show you the way to your flat. |

THE DORSODURO DISTRICT |
|||||||||||||||||||||
|
There
were not many places among the lagoon's mudbanks where Venice's early
settlers could be confident that their dwellings wouldn't slither down
into the water, but with Dorsoduro they were on relatively solid ground:
the sestiere's name translates as "hard back", and its
buildings occupy the largest area of firm silt in the centre of the
city. Dorsoduro is the district for those interested in art. This area comprises the zone around the Academy, The Peggy Guggenheim Collection and various churches that house many paintings and sculptures. The centre of Dorsoduro life is Campo Santa Margherita, which is characterised by its many cafes and the constant coming and going of its residents.
Campo Santa
Margherita
This long courtyard is the social heart of
the Dorsoduro district of Venice. It was named for San Margaret, a church that
closed in 1810, and is now being restored.
In the 19th century, several canals in the area were filled
in and the square was enlarged. Ringed by houses that date from the fourteenth century,
the campo is the site of many bars and market stalls. With local
residents, students at the nearby university, and vendors all sharing
this space, one often gets to see a great cross-section of the community
here. It attracts a large share of "locals" due to its
location in the highly residential Dorsoduro district and it's distance
from the major Venice tourist attractions.
Gallerie
dell’Accademia:
The museum is
a component of the must-see tourist
triad (along with the Palazzo
Ducale
and
San
Marco)
and attracts throngs of people throughout the year.
The
Accademia Gallery
houses the largest collection
of Venetian paintings in the world, spanning over five centuries and
includes Giorgione's 'The Tempest', 'Pieta' by Bellini and Tintoretto's
'The Miracle of St Mark freeing a slave'. Záttere: The Záttere section of Dorsoduro is the waterfront. Named for the floating záttere or rafts that collected bulky goods arriving in Venice. One of Venice's favourite promenades, a long quay with panoramic views of the island of San Giorgio and the Giudecca island. Cafés, trattorie, and restaurants are scattered all along this stretch. |
